Accommodations
The Italian Alps & Dolomites dominate the far north of the country, rising to join the rugged mountain ranges that spread into neighbouring France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. These are the highest points in all of Europe and offer unparalleled vistas along with world-class angling. Picturesque post-card villages dot the alpine landscape along with castles, vineyards, natural thermal spas, and wonderful family run trattorias. The Dolomites are UNESCO protected with world heritage status featuring “some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere”, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs and a high density of narrow, deep and long valleys.
This incredibly bio-diverse area is the perfect habitat for Salmo Marmoratus, the Marble trout. This wild native species is indigenous to these waters and a particular favorite for anglers who travel here specifically to target this beautiful fish. Although the largest on record was just shy of 4’ in length, most are typically between 12”-27”. They share the rivers and lakes with Brook, Brown, and Rainbow trout plus other species.
Along with this world class angling comes classic Italian culture, hospitality, and heritage. Italy remains one of the most welcoming and rewarding countries to visit in the world. Alps & Dolomites: Trentino-Alto Adige
Trentino is justifiably famous amongst anglers as heaven on earth for trout fishing. With over 1200 miles of rivers plus 300 alpine lakes it offers endless variety of terrain all within a fairly small geographic area. Stunning views and excellent access to the Sarca river made our patch the perfect site for the 2018 World Fly Fishing Championships. Located just north of the largest lake in Italy (Lake Garda) the area offers some of the most dependable freshwater in Europe all season long and the ideal habitat for the Marble trout.
The hotel is a third generation family-run accommodation with super friendly staff and a location along the banks of the Sarca. Located centrally within the main village of Comano Terme and framed between the Brenta Dolomites, Lake Molveno and Lake Garda. The village has a beautiful riverside park with walking trails, lots of little bars and shops, plus a supermarket for anything you need. Recently refurbished rooms with balconies, private bathrooms, and Wi-Fi awaits. The in-house restaurant team offers a daily revolving menu with local seasonal ingredients including a wide array of breakfast options plus a three-course Italian meal in the evenings. It is a quiet and comfortable place to relax after a full day of fishing with a rejuvenating aperitivo and a shared love of this glorious alpine wonderland.
Alps & Dolomites: Friuli Venezia Giulia
A two hours drive above the Grand Canal of Venice and the warm beaches on the Adriatic Sea are the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This region is a fantastic destination for outdoor adventurers seeking the glory of the Alps without the maddening crowds. It is Terra Incognita; a frontier land still mostly unknown outside of Italy for now. We focus on the Carnia region within Friuli. Dominated by seven fishable valleys and part of the UNESCO-protected Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, this remarkably wild and pristine reserve is home to chamois, ibexes, falcons and eagles in addition to the native Marble trout.
Accommodation in Friuli is located within the picturesque alpine hamlet of Arta Terme, long famous for the healing thermal waters of Arta and even warmer hospitality. Nestled in an 19th century former distillery, the boutique hotel adds modern spa facilities (saunas and Jacuzzi plus a panoramic pool) to nearly 100 years of history welcoming quests. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and modern comfortable furnishings. The restaurant cooks fresh with local ingredients and offers seasonal dishes plus Italian favourites from beyond Carnia. Within the village all the necessary shops and markets are walkable from the hotel along the river.

Italy On The Fly can provide any type of fly-fishing gear and tackle you need to fully enjoy your fishing experience, from lightweight (even Tenkara gear) to the heavier streamer set-up.
Due to sizing issues, we do recommend that you bring your own waders and boots.

Typical Weather:
During the trout season, the weather is warm, gentle and mild. Some storms can pass over the mountains lowering the temperatures with occasional rain. The mountain weather can be changeable, offering views of clear blue skies with alternating fast clouds and quick storms with rain and rainbows.
The temperature can swing from 50 F (10 C) to 90 F (32 C) in summer down in the valley. On average, Alps and Dolomites climate is breezy, quite dry (30% to 60% humidity), and ideal for outdoor sports (it's the choice for the summer training of professional soccer teams and other outdoor sports).

Italy On The Fly can offer transfer facilities from/to the airport and to/from the fishing spots. We'll take care of everything from your arrival to your departure.
Recommended international airports for our Trentino location are Venice (2 hours, 30 minutes by car) and Verona (1 hour, 30 minutes by car).
Car Hire:
Plenty of people choose to hire a car and enjoy some days in Venice or Verona (or Italy in general) before or after their fishing journey. This option will allow freedom of movement and complete independence.
Tips and Gratuities:
Often we are asked what is the appropriate gratuity for the guides and the hotel staff. Though appreciated, gratuities are not expected and should only be offered if you feel the service we provided warrants such a token of appreciation. In order to help, a general guideline our guides averages between 60/100 euros per guide per day (based on two rods) and 20/30 euros per person per night for the hotel/restaurant staff. However, this is at your discretion and whatever you are comfortable with will be very much appreciated.

Reservations, Deposits & Payments
The deposit is 50% of the trip price unless stated differently in the trip proposal and materials (trip planner and confirmation email). In some cases, deposits are non-refundable, this depends on the destination and will be clearly noted in the trip proposal and materials as well. Deposits may be made by check or credit card: Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card. The balance of the trip cost is due 90 days before departure, except where specified differently on individual itineraries. The balance will be charged automatically to the credit card used for the deposit, unless otherwise specified. Any changes made to the method of payment after the final balance has been collected are subject to processing fees.
A reservation form and release are required prior to departure.
All prices must be paid in U.S. dollars. Deposits are not transferable from one trip to another.
Prices quoted are based on foreign exchange values and tariffs currently in effect and prices are subject to change. Orvis Adventures reserves the right to adjust prices accordingly until the time of departure.
Planning information
When your reservation is confirmed, you will receive planning information to guide you through trip preparations. Details about arrival and departure, clothing and equipment, trip cancellation insurance, pre- and post- trip extensions, visas and documents and activities are included in the planning information.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Although cancellation fees may be higher for some trips (stated in the trip proposal and materials), the following minimum cancellation fees will apply:

For trips that include an Orvis gift card or Orvis merchandise, the retail value of the gift card or merchandise is non-refundable upon delivery. Cancellation fees cannot be waived for any reason, including health, business or personal emergencies, or weather.
We strongly urge you to purchase trip cancellation insurance.
No refunds will be made for unused portions of a trip, including late arrival or early departure. Guide fees and hotel costs are not refundable if unused as outlined in the itinerary. Orvis reserves the right to modify an itinerary due to circumstances beyond our control. In the unlikely event that Orvis must cancel a tour, all payments received to date will be refunded, which constitutes a full settlement.
Orvis is not responsible for expenses incurred in preparation of any canceled trip, including airline tickets and visas fees.
Cancellation Insurance
Your planning information includes information for travel insurance covering cancel for any reason, cancellation for medical reasons, trip delay, medical expenses, lost baggage and medical evacuation. We urge you to obtain this coverage.
Share policies
Trip prices are based on double occupancy. Single rooms & cabins are limited. If you request a single room, a single supplement will apply as noted in the itinerary. We will confirm the single room as early as possible, but in some cases it may not be earlier than 30 days prior to the trip. If you request a roommate, we can usually pair you with another guest of the same gender, and no single supplement will apply. If you request a roommate, and one is not available, we will only charge you the single supplement if required by the lodge or facility used in the trip.
Children under 18 must share a room with a parent or other family member. In some cases this may be waived.
Passports and documents
International trips require a passport. Check your passport early and make sure it has six months validity at the time of travel. A visa is needed in some countries and we will send you complete details and instructions.
Arrival and Departure
Group transfers from a central location such as an airport are described in the itinerary, and are included in the land cost.. Transfers are not included in the land cost if you arrive early or leave after the scheduled departure day.

You will receive a detailed list of appropriate gear with your trip planning information.
Airline reservations
The land cost of your trip does not include airfare.
Limitation of liability
This section defines Orvis Travel’s responsibility with regard to all travel arrangements made by Orvis Travel, including individual travel and pre- and post- trip extensions. Please read it carefully.
Upon sending your deposit to Orvis Travel, you acknowledge that you have read and understand all the terms and conditions outlined here, and agree to be bound by them.
All trips that involve outdoor sporting activities such as shooting or fishing, or travel through remote places by vehicle, boat, small plane or on foot, put you at risk for accidents and serious injuries in the normal course of the activity. That is the nature of travel to such destinations and you acknowledge that you accept these hazards as a condition of participation.
Orvis Travel, its Owners, Employees, Associates and Agents give notice that they act only as the agent for the owners, contractors and suppliers providing means of transportation and/or other services and assume no responsibility howsoever caused for injury, loss or damage to person or property in connection with any service resulting directly from: acts of God, detention, annoyance, delays, expenses arising from quarantine, strikes, thefts, pilferage, force majeure, failure of any means of conveyance to arrive or depart as scheduled, civil disturbances, terrorism, government restrictions or regulations, and discrepancies or changes in transit or hotel services over which it has no control. Reasonable changes in the itinerary may be made where deemed advisable for the comfort and well-being of the passengers.
Baggage and personal effects, including items purchased, guns, fishing equipment or sporting goods are the sole responsibility of the owners at all times and no employee/agent of Orvis Travel, its subsidiaries, affiliated or associated companies is authorized to accept these for storage, safekeeping, or transportation.
