Fly-Fishing Waders

Trout have excellent vision, so wader color matters for fly fishing. We produce our premium Orvis waders in neutral, water-friendly gray tones to minimize your visibility in the water.

We’ve found that rugged CORDURA® nylon-blended fabric is the best material for fly-fishing waders, and we use it, together with PU components, to achieve the toughest waders possible. CORDURA is also breathable and lightweight, two indispensable properties in the outdoors.

Not all fishing waders on the market are breathable, but every Orvis wader is. Designed with breathability in mind, our waders are made with fabrics that allow for airflow so you won’t feel suffocated. Even our heavy-duty waders are breathable, so you get all the benefits of insulation and waterproof protection but none of the sweat effect or sense of constriction. Some anglers get hot in fishing waders, so it’s important to choose the right ones to meet the weather conditions where you plan to fish. Orvis offers Ultralight Convertible waders for warmer weather to keep you from overheating. All of our fishing waders have a high breathability rating, so they’re designed to keep you as comfortable as possible. Orvis breathable waders are made of waterproof nylon and they’re either seam sealed or reinforced for extra protection, so they’re engineered not to leak. 

Find your wader size by obtaining your chest, back, hip, and thigh measurements. Other measurements to consider are the shoe size and the inseam length. We include a link to a detailed size chart on our fishing wader product pages, so you can easily see which size waders to buy. If you’re between sizes, go up. Orvis fishing waders come with adjustable suspenders and belts to customize the fit. 

Some waders come with built-in boots, and some don’t. Search for “bootfoot” waders if you want built-in boots.

Most anglers carry gear and accessories in a fly-fishing sling pack or bag, but you’ll need enough pockets to stash your fly box and personal effects like your phone and other sundries you want within reach. For cold-weather fishing, you’ll want handwarmer pockets as well.

Our YKK zippers are water-resistant, and rubberized tabs on the pockets prevent corrosion.
