Not as substantial as it used to be last year - 12/25/2015
    By: from upstate NY

This jacket available in the inventory of this year is only a cheaper imitation of what it used to be previously. The best of the Coronado Leather jacket was its excellent quality leather. Well, it is not the same any more. It almost resembles the thickness of a lambskin leather jacket. In fact, it feels like 30% lighter and not quite substantial - what many reviewers so used to like in American Bison jacket. The leather largely lacks the typical grainy appearance of the bison leather. It looks mostly smooth. Not the same as it is pictured on the website (see the enlarged picture). Some stiches (especially in the high stress places like in the armpit) look not very tight. The material on the inside is good (the same as it used to be in the jacket from previous years). The zipper (two-ways) is still not the heavy-duty one, but with this much lighter leather goes along "better", compared with the model from the last year. The collar is also thinner and the leather surface not very consistent with the rest. I really would like that Orvis be aware of what seems to be quality erosion observable with their high-end products. I am going to keep this jacket only because it was on sale and will see what it will look like after being broken in.

    Beautiful Jacket - 12/21/2015
    By: from Indianapolis, IN

I made this purchase after studying other jackets and reading countless reviews on this site. First of all, the jacket has a deep, rich chocolate color that is different from the color you see on the web. I don't think anyone is disappointed with the color, but it is different than what you see here. The quality of the jacket is excellent. The stitching is very well done and the quality of the leather is exceptional. The lining is first rate, but I think the pockets on the outside could be a little deeper. I have seen a lot of comments about the zipper and I was prepared to be disappointed. The zipper size is not "heavy" , but it is more than adequate. I have not had any issues operating the zipper. The collar is a stand-up collar, but for those that prefer a lay-down collar, I am confident that this collar will lay down with moderate wear over time. On sizing, I would normally have selected a size 48, but after reading the reviews and thinking about how I would want the jacket to fit, I ordered a 46. Ordering one size down was definitely the right decision.

Very Pleased with This Purchase - 12/10/2015
    By: from Oregon

I read the reviews here and hesitated but the web page photos made this coat irresistible. Here are my observations: Leather is top quality and I don't find it too heavy (haven't weighed it) I'm a 46 suit size with a 34-inch waist and the 44 fits very well. It would be nice if it was a little more "fitted" but the "beer belly" comment seems exaggerated. The zipper is absolutely fine, not under-sized. I don't want a clunky "barbour" zipper on this coat. That said, I don't need the two-way zip system. Collar is not a problem its just what you'd expect from the photo, I love it. This is a spendy coat but I believe its worth the dough. I love it

    Awesome jacket - 12/8/2015
    By: from Little Rock, Ar.

I have looked at this jacket for a number of years before finally deciding to make the purchase. Unlike some reviewers I found the sizing to be true and have had no issues with fit. The jacket is rugged and very good looking. I have received numerous compliments on the jacket in the few weeks I have owned it and worn it. I have worn it in the low 50's all the way down in the 20's comfortably.

Excellent quality but flawed sizing model - 11/14/2015
    By: from Malvern, PA

I've been an Orvis customer for over 30 years, and love the products and their quality. I ordered this jacket in good faith despite the sizing concerns that had been expressed by prior reviewers. The quality of the jacket is unquestionable! I wish it would've fit. It fit fine in the shoulders, but appeared to be tapered for a conical physique. If you've got a beer belly this is the jacket for you! If you're in shape, the bottom of the jacket will balloon outwards. I returned it, and purchased a different jacket.

    Great Purchase - 10/8/2015
    By:

This jacket is of very high quality, but it may not fit everyone. I ordered a 44 (my usual size), but it was too large. The 42 fit me well, although the shoulders were a little tight. Like anything constructed of thick, heavy leather, the jacket needs time to "break in" and fit to your shape. If it is comfortable enough to wear out of the box, but not exactly right, have patience and let the jacket stretch and fit to your shape. Like a great pair of leather shoes, once it has broken-in, you'll wear it every day.

Looks Great, Smells Great! - 7/3/2015
    By: from Southern, NJ

Beutiful jacket. High quality. I had to return it because of the fit. I got a 40 and the sleeves were perfect but the shoulders were too tight. I would have tried a 42 but the sleeves would have been 1 1/2" longer. I would have loved to keep it.

    Best Orvis Jacket - 4/6/2015
    By: from Minneapolis, MN

High grade beautifully matched leather, well-stitched. Zipper too small for this #7 jacket & pockets a tad shallow in my opinion. Otherwise, this is a great jacket and should develop an unbelievable patina over the next 10 years, while wearing like iron. Warm enough for 10-15 degrees and above weather. Highly recommended.

    Good quality leather - 4/1/2015
    By: from London, UK

The leather this jacket is made of will last a very long time. Good to have a selection of inside pockets. If I were re-designing the jacket I would have a spread (rather than a stand-up)collar and a more substantive zip. Also would be good if one of the larger pockets was zipped (only a lower small pocket suitable for keys, coins etc is fully secure). However, if you are considering purchase I think you will be pleased with this jacket.
