Fly-Fishing Opportunities in Western New York
Western New York is often regarded as the snow capital of the Northeast, known only for its abundant snow fall and cold winters. What are often overlooked are the great fishing opportunities that this region holds. Situated between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, the greater Buffalo area sees one of the countries most prolific runs of Steelhead, Brown Trout, King Salmon, as well as Silver Salmon each year. Not only does this area possess excellent tributary fishing, but the trout fishing is just as rich. Fishing small streams with 3 and 4wt rods is the norm. An occasional 18inch fish can be caught on our waters. As a special bonus, the warm water fishery is world class! Smallmouth Bass can be caught here up to 5 pounds and sometimes larger! With fishing action all year long, Western New York truly is a fly-fishers paradise. In the following text we will discuss some of the more important bodies of water, their location, and general access to fish them. These streams are all accessible by the wading angler.
