Learn to fish at the Orvis Wisconsin Fly-Fishing School located at the private and exclusive River Wildlife in Kohler. A 500-acre wilderness preserve, River Wildlife is maintained in its natural state to preserve native vegetation and wildlife including five miles of the meandering Sheboygan River. The school covers everything from fly casting, choosing the right tackle, leaders and knots, to fly selection and how to safely release fish. Students who choose our two-day school, and stay overnight at The American Club or Inn on Woodlake, can enjoy great outdoor activities including self-guided river fishing, shotgun sports, horseback riding, 18 miles of woodland trails, and much more.

Cancellation Policy & Fees:
If you cancel your reservation outside of 30 days from your school date, Orvis will issue a refund back to your original method of payment. Cancellations within 30 days from your school date are subject to a 20% cancellation fee, and a refund will be issued in the form of an Orvis Gift Card. Orvis Gift Cards never expire and can be used to book your next school reservation or to purchase other Orvis product. School transfers are based on availability and can be done at any time (cancellation fees do not apply). Students that do not attend their scheduled school and do not notify the school reservation department will be charged in full.

9:00 am Student registration at Kohler River Wildlife Lodge.
9:30 Introduction and discussion of class program.
9:45 Classroom presentation – The Orvis Progressive Method to Fly Casting video.
10:00 Report to casting area for demonstration on the basic casting stroke; students casting.

Classroom presentation – Tackle and flies.

12:00 pm Lunch (catered to school.)

Report to casting area for demonstration on shooting line, false casting, and roll casting; students casting.

2:00 Classroom presentation – Knot tying seminar. Discussion on leaders, hands-on knot tying.

Pond fishing trip – Demonstration on hook-setting and fish fighting techniques. Demonstration on fishing flies. Students fishing and practice casting.

3:45 Return to classroom for closing statements, and graduation certificates.
4:00 End of school.

Classroom presentation – The Orvis Progressive Method to Teaching Fly Casting part two: video on shooting line, false casting, and roll casting.

1:15 p.m. Report to casting area for demonstration on shooting line, false casting, and roll casting; students casting. Video tape students.
2:30 p.m. Classroom presentation – Knot tying seminar. Discussion on leaders, hands-on knot tying.
4 p.m. Classroom presentation – Equipment and accessories.
4:30 p.m. End of first day.

2-Day School: DAY TWO

Classroom presentation – Entomology, fly selection, and how to fish flies. Tips on how to handle, photograph, and release fish.

9:30 a.m. Demonstration on hook-setting and fish fighting techniques.
9:45 a.m.

Classroom presentation – Video analysis. The Orvis Progressive Method to Teaching Fly Casting part three: video on the double haul.

10:45 a.m.

Report to casting area for demonstration on the double haul; fishing in still water; students casting and fishing.

12:00 pm Lunch (catered to school).
1 p.m. Orvis-Endorsed fishing trips, and tips on fishing with guides. Discussion on wading safety.
1:30 p.m. Sheboygan River trip – Talk on reading water. Demonstration on fishing flies in moving water; students fishing.
3:30 p.m. Return to schoolroom for closing statements, and graduation certificates.
