The Story

Orvis-endorsed Harpole's Heartland wingshooting lodge is located in Pike County, Illinois, known for its abundance of wildlife and ideal habitat. Nestled between the Mississippi and Illinois rivers lies fertile ground and rich habitat for both quail and pheasants, along with the migratory waterfowl that fly along both flyways.

The Midwest's hospitality and friendliness can't be duplicated anywhere in the country. Our staff will make you feel part of the family as soon as you walk through the door. We are a year-around operation, so this allows us to employ full-time staff that insures quality and consistency every year.

Heartland Lodge's owner started the lodge 24 years ago. He grew up with the tradition of going to his grandparents' house and hunting with his large family. He hunted quail, pheasants, deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels, ducks, and just about anything that was in season. Growing up, he always thought it was pulling the trigger and harvesting game that he enjoyed the most, but as he has gotten older, he doesn't remember pulling the trigger as much as he remembers the great times and memories with his grandparents and family. He remembers sitting around the breakfast table enjoying a feast along with hot black coffee and his Grandma making amazing dinners with homemade pies and cakes for desserts. After breakfast, they would stop at the grocery store and get a couple pounds of lunch meat, a loaf of bread, and a soda. Then they would go to his uncles', other relatives' and friends' farms to see how many coveys of quail or pheasants they could find. He started Heartland Lodge to continue his family's hunting tradition and to share it with others.

Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.
