The Orvis Ohio Fly-Fishing School is held at beautiful Rockwell Springs Trout Club near Clyde, OH. The club is situated on 125 acres of woodlands and picturesque meadows with three miles of spring fed stream which originates on the Club's property. Rockwell Springs Trout Club was established in 1900 and whose stream contains a healthy population of rainbow, brook, brown, and tiger trout making this the perfect setting for a fly fishing school. The two-day school covers everything from fly casting, choosing the right tackle, leaders and knots, to fly selection, and how to safely release fish.

You'll cover it all at the Orvis Ohio Fly Fishing School:
  • Fly casting techniques (including video analysis with the Two-Day School)
  • Essential fly fishing knots
  • How to choose your gear and tackle
  • Fly selection
  • How to read water
  • How to play, land, photograph, and safely release fish

Cancellation Policy & Fees:
If you cancel your reservation outside of 30 days from your school date, Orvis will issue a refund back to your original method of payment. Cancellations within 30 days from your school date are subject to a 20% cancellation fee, and a refund will be issued in the form of an Orvis Gift Card. Orvis Gift Cards never expire and can be used to book your next school reservation or to purchase other Orvis product. School transfers are based on availability and can be done at any time (cancellation fees do not apply). Students that do not attend their scheduled school and do not notify the school reservation department will be charged in full.

1-Day Program Itinerary
Time Activity & Description
9:00 a.m. Student registration at Rockwell Springs Trout Club.
9:30 a.m. Introduction and discussion of class program.
9:45 a.m. Classroom presentation – The Orvis Progressive Method to Fly Casting video.
10:00 a.m Report to casting pond for demonstration on the basic casting stroke; students casting.
11:00 a.m. Classroom presentation – Tackle and flies.
12:00 Lunch (catered to school.)
1:00 p.m. Report to casting pond for demonstration on shooting line, false casting, and roll casting; students casting. 
2:00 p.m. Classroom presentation – Knot tying seminar. Discussion on leaders, hands-on knot tying.
2:30 p.m. Stream trip – Demonstration on hook-setting and fish fighting techniques. Demonstration on fishing flies in moving water; students fishing.
3:45 p.m. Return to classroom for closing statements, and graduation certificates.
4:00 p.m. End of School.

Rockwell Springs has four different overnight buildings on its 125 acres. The four buildings have 18 rooms at differing rates. The Club’s lodging is the main choice for most students attending the school. The Clubhouse has a full service restaurant and bar that the students can utilized.
