The Orvis Missouri Fly-Fishing School is held at River Run Outfitters in Branson. Time Activity & Description
8:30 am Students meet at River Run Outfitters. Introduction and discussion of class program.
8:45 Classroom presentation – Tackle and Fly selection.
9:45 The Orvis Progressive Method to Fly Casting: Video on the basic casting stroke, shooting line, false casting, false casting and shooting line, roll casting and double hauling.
10:00 Report to casting pond for demonstration of basic casting stroke. Students casting.
11:45 Lunch at Hungry Hunters.
12:45 pm Report to casting pond for demonstration on the double haul. Students casting.
1:45 Talk on reading water. Demonstration on fishing flies. Students fishing.
3:00 Return to shop.
3:15 Classroom presentation – Knot tying seminar. Discussion on leaders, hands-on knot tying.
3:45 Orvis Endorsed fishing trips and tips on fishing with guides. Wading and wading safety.
4:00 Closing statements, and graduation certificates.
4:15 End of school.

10:30 Report to casting pond for demonstration of basic casting stroke. Students casting.
11:45 Go to lunch at Hungry Hunters.
12:30 pm Report to casting pond for demonstration of shooting line, false casting, false casting and shooting line, and roll casting, followed by student's practice and video taping of students casting.
2:15 Return to shop.
2:30 Classroom presentation – Fly vests, chest packs and accessories. Wading equipment a wading safety.
3:15 Classroom presentation – Leader, tippet, weights, strike indicators and knot tying, followed by students knot tying.
4:30 End of first day.

2-Day School: DAY TWO
Time Activity & Description
9:00 am Classroom presentation - Entomology, fly selection, and how to choose flies, tips on handling, photographing, and releasing fish.
10:15 Classroom presentation – Video analysis. Discussion on the double haul.
11:00 Report to casting pond – Demonstration on proper hook setting and fish fighting techniques. Demonstration on double hauling and casting in windy conditions safely. Students casting.
12:15 pm Lunch at Hungry Hunters.
12:45 Report to casting pond for discussion on reading water. Demonstration on fishing flies. Students fishing.
3:30 Return to shop.
3:45 Class room presentation – Orvis-Endorsed fishing trips and tips on fishing with guides.

Question: How many people will be in the class?

Answer - That depends on the school. The range is 12 to 36 students, always with a ratio of one instructor for every four students.

Question: Do we stop the school because of weather?

Answer - No.

Question: How much time is spent in the classroom vs. casting and fishing?

Question: Can you bring your own equipment?

Answer - Yes.

Question: Is this class for intermediate anglers?

Answer - Yes. In casting, we adjust our instruction to the individual student’s level.

Question: How old do my children have to be to join me in this fishing school?

Answer - At the Santa Rosa Beach School, youngsters should be at least 14 years old (because of the heavier tackle used). All other schools we recommend 12 years of age.

Question: What is the cancellation policy?

Answer - Should you need to cancel the school within 30 days prior to the starting date, we will issue a gift certificate in the amount of the cancelled school. That gift certificate may be used toward another school date of your choice.

Question: What other recreation is available near the school?
