Description: About Wood River

The Wood River is a short river in the southern region of of Oregon, and part of the Klamath Basin drainage. It flows 18 miles through the Fremont-Winema National Forests, Bureau of Land Management land, and private property in southern Oregon and drains into Agency Lake. The Wood River provides excellent fishing opportunities for Redband Rainbow Trout. Also, the Wood River provides one of the best opportunities in Oregon to catch Brown Trout. A true Spring Creek, this river will challenge your presentation skills. A tributary to Agency Lake, which is connected to Klamath Lake, the Wood River is home to Brown Trout and migratory Redband Rainbows. Down and dirty streamer fishing produces best on this narrow intimate river lined with tulles, willows and deep undercut grassy banks. But don’t be distraught if you are a dry fly junkie – baetis, BWO, Mahogany Dunns and especially hopper and terrestrial action is definitely there to be had. The Wood River winds through forest and lush farmlands from its spring-fed origin to its tule adorned mouth. There is a slow, but defined transition which you will experience as you fish your way down this uncrowded river.
