NW Outfitters's Tip of the Week

The Joe has been an option down low. Floating the lower can be good at these flows you just have to find the soft water. Nymphing has been the most productive, but streamers have had their moments as well as some dry fly action on the warmer days.

Another round of nice weather coming after a little rain.

Techniques & Tips as of 3/27/24

Nymphing has been the key, but streamer fishing and dry fly fishing have had some good moments. The nice weather should bring out some decent bugs. Fish are podded up this time of year so if you find em don't be in a rush to leave em.

Description: About St. Joe River

The St. Joe River flows through the panhandle region of northern Idaho and is a blue ribbon fishery for Native West Slope Cutthroat trout. The lower portion can be floated but above Avery it is primarily walk and wade water. The best times to count on good fishing are from early June through mid October. Some years like this spring there is decent pre runoff fishing in early to mid spring. These are beautiful fish in a very scenic river.
